authority area, legislation requires councils to carry out reviews
of the Polling Districts and Polling Places in that
area.
The North Yorkshire
Council area is divided into polling districts, with one or more
polling districts making up a division, and with a polling place
being an area or building within a polling district in which a
polling station is situated.
The last full
statutory review was held in 2023 and was the first for North
Yorkshire Council area. The Electoral Registration &
Administration Act 2013 governs the timings of compulsory reviews.
The next compulsory review is due to commence in the 16 month
period beginning on 1 October 2028. A council can conduct a review
at any time, but it will still have to conduct a full review during
the compulsory timeframe.
The Council
conducted an interim polling district and polling place review on
10 October taking into consideration the Community Governance
Review for unparished areas of Harrogate and Scarborough –
including boundary anomalies relating to the parishes of Eastfield,
Newby and Scalby and Osgodby. It is also reviewing the
designated polling stations where the existing venue is no longer
available or suitable to act as a polling station. This review
effects only 25 divisions of North Yorkshire Council’s 89,
and 62 polling districts and 49 polling stations.
Consultation on these initial proposals closed on 31 October
2024.
The initial
proposals were distributed to local community groups, action
groups, disability groups, charities, MPs, Parish Councils and
County Councillors. Representations were received and
considered, and the final recommendations are presented within this
document.
Any changes to
polling districts that are approved will be included in the revised
electoral register which will be published on 1 December
2024.

in January.
